I need a brief summary written on an article in relation to a chapter in my textbook.

Here is what the professor is asking for and an example of a student’s post. I attached the article and he is asking us to compare the article to the info in chapter five.

Skin Hunger Discussion Area – Skin Hunger 2

From ?

33 unread replies.66 replies.

Instructions

In this discussion I want you to discuss the article in relation to chapter 5 of your textbook and make connections between concepts contained in both. Your post should address at least one of the following concepts from the chapter that are particularly relevant to this article:

  • Plasticity and brain development
  • Attachment
  • The factors that affect a caregiver’s sensitivity to infant’s needs (e.g., Figure 5.4, p. 157) including Culture, Personal Life Story, Contemporary Factors, and Infant Characteristics.
  • Erikson’s psychosocial stage of infancy (e.g., crisis of trust vs. mistrust, central process of mutuality, etc. etc. ).

Include a title line that briefly describes what your post is about at the top of your post. For example:

  • TITLE: Plasticity and the Pleasure of Human Interaction

Grading

Your grade for this assignment will be based on your ability to use the article to further your understanding of the concepts in the text. You can contribute to the discussion as many times as you would like. However, as in our chapter discussions:

  • However, keep in mind, I will only be grading your first post. You are welcome to post as many times as you like of course. But make sure your first post fulfills all the requirements of the assignment. That is the only post I will be using for grading purposes.
  • Keep your posts to a reasonable length. (about 200 words) 250 words per post is an absolute maximum for this assignment. I will not read or grade submissions that are over this limit.

Most importantly your contribution should be about making connections between the article and text. The idea here is that the article should enhance your understanding of concepts from the chapter. So, make sure that any posts you create meet the following 4 criteria:

  • You should refer both to the article and the text in your post.
  • Your contribution to the discussion should be substantive (i.e., your post should be focused on the details of specific key concepts and ideas from the article and text). More specifically:
    • When you use a concept from the text, be sure to describe what the concept means (i.e., don’t just use the term, define what it means as well).
    • If you make a claim about something in the article, you need to support this with details from the article. For instance, don’t just say something like “Mary did not feed her child as often as she should have.” If you make this statement, you should back it up with an example about Mary’s behavior from the article.
  • When referring to the text or the article make sure to include the page numbers from the article and page numbers from the text that include the concept(s) or other information you are referring to.
  • Do not repeat a question or comment that was already made. You should be reading other students’ posts before you post your own comment. If something related to what you want to say has already been posted, you should not simply repeat what is said. You should be adding to that thread of the discussion rather than starting a new one.

TITLE: The Importance of Early Attachment for DevelopmentAttachment is a critical process in which one develops a positive emotional bond with another person (Newman, 151). For infants, it is essential to experience attachment with a consistent and nurturing caregiver in order for them to develop normally. The article “Skin Hunger” illustrates this claim because Laura did not experience emotional attachment with her mother Virginia, and therefore, she was unable to grow and develop normally. Virginia was emotionally disconnected from her baby and failed to interact with Laura in a loving and physical manner. This resulted in Laura being unable to gain weight as Virginia did not provide her with the emotion signals necessary to stimulate growth (“Skin Hunger,” 87-88). Forming attachments at an early age is necessary for a child’s development as there is evidence that suggests that there is a critical period for learning how to form healthy relationships and how to interact with others emotionally (Newman, 156). For example, Virginia did not possess a normal maternal instinct and this was due to her own disjointed experience in making attachments. As a young child in the foster care system, Virginia was unable to form any long-term bonds with a caregiver because she was constantly moving around (“Skin Hunger,” 87). Attachments made at early ages are essential for one’s developmental success. Without them, similar struggles to those of Laura and Virginia seem to be inevitable.

Continuing Argumentative Essay

Drafting an Argumentative Essay

In this unit, you will draw on the prewriting you performed in Unit 7 to write a full argumentative research essay draft utilizing two scholarly, peer-reviewed library sources, cited and referenced in correct APA. You will submit your draft to your instructor for grading and feedback in this assignment. At this point, you have identified a debate, taken your position, generated supporting and opposing points, and considered audience, purpose, and voice via the use of prewriting strategies. Now you will draft the full essay.

Please carefully examine the Argumentative Essay Sample resource, as well as the APA section of A Writer’s Reference, under Article from a Database, and/or to The Prentice Hall Guide for College Writers, Article from a Journal, in the APA section, which starts on page 453.

The purpose of this essay is to take a firm stance on an arguable concept within your topic of interest and to persuade your reader of your stance effectively via argument strategies and the integration of scholarly research.

To complete the assignment:

  1. Use your prewriting materials from the Unit 7 assignment and the feedback you received from your instructor to write a full, 3–4 page rough draft of your Argumentative Essay. (Page requirement does not include title page, references, or revision statement.) This draft will be graded and should be very carefully composed. Incorporate a variety of argumentative appeals: logic and reason; character, credibility, and ethical appeal; and emotion (logos, ethos, and pathos). Integrate rich information from your two scholarly, peer-reviewed library sources and from your own understanding of the topic.
  2. Integrate quoted and/or paraphrased information from both library articles throughout your essay. Incorporate source materials smoothly into your own paragraphs, fully citing the articles in-text and in an end References page in correct APA style.
  3. When you have finished your assignment, carefully and very thoroughly read through the Drafting an Argumentative Essay Scoring Guide before submitting your work. Read and comprehend all categories in the scoring guide, asking your instructor if you have any questions about any element of these criteria. Do not finalize and submit this assignment until you have taken this step.
  4. Format your draft in full and proper APA document style.
  5. Submit your assignment to the Turnitin source matching tool, and make any necessary revisions before submitting your final essay for grading.
  6. Submit the draft of your Argumentative Essay.

Reflective Journal

Reflective Journal 1

Day 1:

Do you believe that it is genetics, environment or both that determine behavior? Provide specific examples and explain your response.

Day 2:

How does your culture contribute to the way that you interact with your social world? If you are an American then think about your subculture which could be race, geographic location, etc.?

Day 3:

Social media has dramatically impacted the way that we interact with and view our social world. Some researchers have argued that it has negatively impacted communication skills. Others have reported that social media has increased the need to only project your best self or keep up with others and this has contributed to a rise in depression. How do you feel social media is shaping the way that people respond to their social world? What about you — what is your relationship with social media and how has it impacted you?

Day 4

Today I want you to pay attention and make note of your own personal social environment. You will practice observational research as you pay close attention to the interactions of others in your various settings. What did you notice about how others interact? Make note of any profound observations. What about your perceptions of others?

Day 5:

Today, pay attention to how others make you feel? Were there situations today where someone made you angry, happy, sad or mad? Also try to notice how others perceive you. Do you have any situations where you feel you are treated differently than others? Do you think that people’s perception of you is accurate or inaccurate?
