Questions for “To Spin a Yarn: The Female Voice in Folklore and Fairy Tale” (393)
- On pages 394-397,
- Rowe uses both blocks of quoted material and bits and pieces to support her ideas about Ovid’s Metamorphosis. Discuss what you see in the writing in this section:
- the balance between quoted material and the author’s own words;
- any places you thought were particularly well written OR a place where the quoted material and author’s words didn’t flow smoothly together; and
- place(s) where Rowe’s discussion of this story reminds the reader of the bigger conversation (weaving & female voice).
Good places to focus: pages 394-398 include a retelling of Ovid’s Metamorphosis and pages 398-302 fold in the story/history of Scheherazade.
Remember, this is along the lines of what you will be building into your next essay.
